About Ray Pearson

Why Am I Running

Serving young people and public education has always been something I have always held in high regard. Since college I have worked with young people to help them reach their full potential working for the YMCA and Boys and Girls Club of America. Public education is the cornerstone of our great country and prepares the next generation for our future. Running for re-election to the Carlsbad Unified School District Board of Trustees is to insure our Board of Trustees has the experience needed to have our 11,100 students, educators, parents and community have exceptional schools during this pandemic and State budget challenge. I believe as a Trustee I have a duty to prepare our 11,100 students for a highly competitive world economy and ensure our children and grandchildren have an opportunity to chase their dreams.

Ray's Background and Experience

Ray is married, has three married children and three grandchildren. His youngest son, Dane graduated from Carlsbad High School. While Dane was attending CHS, Ray was on the Parent Association Board with his wife Karen and liaison to the Carlsbad Educational Foundation. He provided input into the operation of CHS serving on the School Site Counsel for two years.  He was and continues to be a judge for the CHS Speech and Debate tournaments.  As a Carlsbad Rotarian, Ray provides attorneys, a retired US Marine judge, small business owners, elected officials and retired college professors to be speech and debate judges.

Being raised most of his life by a single Mom and immigrant grandparents in Southern California he values the public education and opportunity to go to college afforded to him. He was the first in his family to complete college with a Bachelor of Science. Ray was selected by Westinghouse Broadcasting and Cable to complete their advanced management course. Ray has brought his extensive background in telecommunications and business to benefit the oversight of CUSD. The connection between property values and high performing schools is critical to Carlsbad. Ray continues to work tirelessly for CUSD to be recognized by business, higher education and local government as a World Class Educator.
